APC Mandatory Competencies – Module D: Conflict Avoidance, Management and Dispute Resolution Procedures (to level 2)
This APC revision module comprises of a single unit (select the one relevant to your geographical location) and equates to 1 hour of formal CPD.
This module will provide you with all the level 1 knowledge in Conflict Avoidance, Management and Dispute Resolution Procedures. In addition, your APC trainer will explain you how to demonstrate level 2 in this competency for candidates who have selected it as an optional competency.
Advice to complete your summary of experience and examples of common APC questions are provided throughout the training videos. You will also be given access to associated study notes and revision materials.

Unit 1: Conflict Avoidance, Management and Dispute Resolution Procedures (to level 2) – UK
- Common causes of disputes.
- Techniques for conflict avoidance.
- Conflict management and dispute resolution procedures within the construction industry
- including negotiation, mediation and conciliation, adjudication, arbitration and litigation.
- How the JCT and NEC contracts deal with disputes.
- The possible roles of a surveyor as an expert witness and/or an advocate.
- The role of the RICS Dispute Resolution Service.
Unit 2: Conflict Avoidance, Management and Dispute Resolution Procedures (to level 2) – MENA
- Common causes of disputes.
- Techniques for conflict avoidance.
- Conflict management and dispute resolution procedures within the construction industry in UGC countries.
- How the FIDIC contracts deal with disputes.
- The possible roles of a surveyor as an expert witness and/or an advocate.
- The role of the RICS Dispute Resolution Service.
